Many people are saying that we are now going down a slippery slope when it comes to the environment and how we take care of it. We live in an incredibly selfish society where everything is only about what is good for me but not what is good for everyone else. Many people live their lives with the sole goal of making as much money as possible and living in that fancy house and driving that fancy car. How they get there doesn’t seem to make any difference to them and if it comes at the expense of the environment then so be it. We can’t continue on like this and thankfully there are consumers out there who make shopping choices based on what a particular business is doing to reduce its carbon footprint and to become more environmentally responsible.

There are many businesses out there that are involved in the manufacturing sector and in engineering and mechanics, and so they deal with many harsh chemicals and oils every day of the week and many are not taking steps to make sure that these same things do not leak into the water table. Once again, they have the attitude that it doesn’t really matter where all of this oil goes as long as they are making money and they are creating jobs. This is unacceptable and most of these businesses should be purchasing environmentally friendly oil water separators to make an effort to stop the pollution in its tracks. There are many other things that you as a business can do to not only improve your company brand but also to help Mother Earth as well.

  • Recycle & reuse – Many businesses have signs all around the premises saying the exact same thing and yet they are not doing what they say. It’s time that you started to take things seriously and to instruct your staff to always recycle plastics, glass and metals. It is your job as the owner of the business or the manager to encourage your staff and to lead by example like when applying for a loan for example. It starts with small gestures like this and then it leads to much bigger improvements further down the line.
  • Turn down the thermostat – It doesn’t matter if your staff is trying to stay cooler or trying to get warmer and you should be instructing them to turn the clocks down by a degree or two in order to reduce electricity usage and therefore reduce your business’ carbon footprint. Believe it or not, but by reducing by just a couple of degrees this can save a significant amount of carbon from going into the atmosphere and all businesses did it right across the country then maybe we wouldn’t be experiencing the problems that we are now.

These are just two simple and very straightforward things that can be implemented tomorrow and you will be making a marked impact on your carbon footprint. Customers react to gestures such as these and they will reward you for your consideration by continuing to buy your products and services.
